ABOUT OUR PRACTICE

Yass Valley Veterinary Hospital has proudly served the local community for over 50 years. Established in 1973 by Dr Ian Nielsen as a two-veterinarian practice, the hospital originally focused on supporting the surrounding rural community, with approximately 80% of its work dedicated to large animals.

In 1984, Dr Peter Gibbs acquired the practice and expanded its vision. Recognising the needs of a growing region, he opened an additional clinic in Murrumbateman in 1992 to better service the village and surrounding hobby farms.

Dr Stuart Williams joined the practice in 1993, became a partner in 1996, and played a key role in the development of the purpose-built Yass Veterinary Hospital at its current Laidlaw Street location, completed later that year. In 2011, Stuart became sole owner following Peter’s decision to step back from the business. Stuart has since stepped down as owner and continues to support the team in a casual capacity.

As the practice has grown alongside its community, so too has its approach. We have evolved into a values-driven, team-based organisation focused on delivering exceptional veterinary care. The Yass Veterinary Hospital has also recently been renovated, bringing our facilities up to date and ensuring a modern, comfortable environment for both patients and clients.

Murrumbateman is also home to our purpose-built veterinary hospital, completed in June 2018. This state-of-the-art facility enables us to provide modern, comprehensive care for both small and large animals in a well-equipped environment.

Today, Yass Valley Veterinary Hospital is supported by a dedicated team of 8 veterinarians, 12 veterinary nurses, 8 administrative team members, and 4 support staff. While companion animals such as cats and dogs now make up around 75% of our work, we remain a true mixed practice, caring for horses, livestock, pocket pets, and wildlife.

Our mission is to provide high-quality care for your animals throughout every stage of their lives. We value strong relationships with our clients and offer a purpose-built app to enhance communication, along with a loyalty program to support ongoing care.
