    • Foals are vaccinated from 12 weeks
    • A booster injection should be given twelve months after the initial course.
    • Thereafter a tetanus vaccination should be given every 2 to 5 years

    STRAGLES

    • Recommended for horses interacting with other horses (pony club, shows, team penners, horses going to stud)

    • A booster injection should be given six months after the initial course.
    • A booster injection should be given annually thereafter. It is recommended in times of high infection risk that vaccinations be given every 6 months.

    HENDRA

    • Hendra is a fatal disease of horses and humans. There is no effective treatment.
    • Currently there have been no reported cases south of Kempsey in NSW.
    • Horses are at risk if they travel to areas where know infections have occurred or come in contact with infected horses.
    • Horse must be examined by an Accredited Veterinarian to ensure they are clinically normal before being vaccinated. Horses must be microchipped before vaccination.
    • All horses with an unknown vaccination history should receive an initial course of 2 vaccinations given 3 to 6 weeks apart.
    • A booster injection should be given six months after the initial course.
    • To maintain full immunity a booster should be given every 6 months.
    • Foals are vaccinated from 16 weeks
  • DENTISTRY

Maintaining good dental health is such an important part of keeping your performance horse in optimum condition or your old friend healthy and comfortable.

    Our equine dental vets will:

    • Perform a professional oral examination under sedation
    • Perform a Powerfloat to remove sharp enamel points and restore correct alignment of the arcades
    • Take digital radiographs to identify diseased teeth
    • Extract loose and diseased teeth.
  • WORMING

We recommend that horses have their faeces tested once every 2 months with a faecal egg count (FEC) and only wormed if counts are above 200 eggs per gram.

Where FECs have not been performed, horses should be wormed once every 2 months rotating drenches from a different chemical group on each occasion.
