Leah Samson

RECEPTIONIST  | COMMENCED 2023

Where did you grow up and how did your childhood shape you to work at Yass Valley Veterinary?

I grew up in Rochester, New York and moved to Australia in 2017 after graduating from university. My family showed Haflinger horses, and I cherish the many good memories with our horses, cats, and dogs. I have always loved animals, both domesticated and wild, and knew from a young age that I wanted to be involved in their care and conservation. I am thrilled to be able to work with such a wide variety of animals daily and appreciate any opportunities to learn more about their husbandry.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Forest Biology with a focus on Wildlife Science from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. I am also a qualified horticulturalist with a passion for sustainable agriculture and permaculture.

Why do you like working at Yass Valley Veterinary?

I enjoy working at YVV because I learn something new every single day. The entire team is fantastic, and it is very special to be able to work with likeminded people who share a passion for animals.

What you like doing in your spare time?

I adore exploring the great outdoors and camping. I spend a lot of time in my garden and try to grow as much of my own food as possible.

What pets do you have?

I have an ex-racing greyhound named Onyx and a red cattle cross named Meeka. They are best friends and always keen for an adventure. They love going on long walks and playing fetch.
