Naomi Kirkwood

BvetBiol, BVSc (Hons1) | Veterinarian

COMMENCED SEPTEMBER 2022

Where did you grow up and how did your childhood shape you to work at Yass Valley Veterinary?

I grew up in Melbourne and kept horses in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria. I started riding when I was two years old and fell in love with the sport competing in eventing and dressage, and fell in love with all animals! With owning horses comes lots of veterinary issues, and through these visits I became very interested in the work that vets do. The horses were a massive reason that I decided I wanted to be a vet in rural practice.

What qualifications do you have?

I studied at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga and graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons 1).

BVBiol/BVSc (Hons 1).

Why do you like working at Yass Valley Veterinary?

I like working at Yass Valley Veterinary because of the variety of cases and animals we see, and the gold standard care that we can provide. Going from an Alpaca to a horse and then to a dog or a cat always keeps the days incredibly interesting.

What you like doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy riding and competing my horses in eventing and dressage, going to the ocean, hiking and skiing.

What pets do you have?

I have a horse named Barbie and a whippet named Barney.
